Summary: Bud is a ten year old who is motherless and living in Flint, Michigan during the Great Depression. After he was able to escape from a bad foster home, he sets out and is in search of the man he believes to be his father who is the renowned band leader H.E. Calloway of Grand Rapids. After finding him and showing Calloway the rocks of the concert dates his mother kept, he realizes that she was Calloway’s estranged daughter who ran away 11 years earlier.
