Brief summary on how to use for students:  The students will be able to use this book to learn the past and how there was a time of segregation between races. Students will be able to read and see that friendship is possible no matter what color your skin is.
Summary: Joe and John Henry are the best of friends. They like to swim and shoot marbles and when they grow up they both want to be firefighters. The only difference between the two boys is that Joe is white and John Henry is black. During the 1960’s, John Henry was not allowed to swim in the same pool as Joe or go into the market with Joe. After the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed, John and Joe went to go into the market together.
